Evaluation, research and cultural analysis

Evaluation and cultural analysis

Many funded arts or education projects and initiatives now require an evaluation component. This can often present a challenge for organisations who have little experience in this area. Barry Creasy, a cultural analyst, can provide you with the diagnostic tools to look at your arts organisation, to identify its strengths and weaknesses, and to plot a path to a more vibrant future. He can provide advice and training in these techniques, or undertake the evaluation and analysis. This includes the following:

  • Writing an evaluation proposal
  • Considering aims, objectives, inputs, outcomes, outputs and impact, and formulating how these can best be evaluated
  • Running a questionnaire exercise
  • Audience research
  • Conducting interviews with performers or audience members
  • Observations
  • Focus groups (including facilitation and write-up)
  • Evaluation workshops
  • Creative evaluation techniques (e.g. using a performance exercise to evaluate)
  • Data collation, coding and analysis
  • Report writing
  • Cultural business planning

Research

Barry can also undertake stand-alone research projects, or provide help and input with larger initiatives. Services offered include:

  • Desk/library research
  • Internet research
  • Questionnaire construction
  • Focus group planning and facilitation
  • Interviewing (including telephone interviews)
  • Data collection, collation, synthesis and analysis
  • Report-writing
